Make new friends, but keep the old....

One is silver and the other is gold...
I always thought that second half of the stanza was dumb because I honestly think all friends are gold in their own special way.

I have come to realize this month that there will never be that one person who fulfills every expectation you have....but instead you have a cornicopia of unique human beings of which when put together you have a completed perfect friend :)

I've realized within the past month that I have put high standards on some of my friends. I always expect things from them, when a true friend should expect nothing but them being themselves.

I've realized that I just need to accept them for who they are, for their strengths and most especially for their weaknesses.

I've realized that no matter how many of them disappoint me, there is always one person out there who is willing and will pick me back up. And thankfully, if that person lets me down...I have Jesus!! The bestest friend in the world! :D

The more I step back and appreciate my friends for all that they are...I realize that each one of my friends are there for certain reasons....and sometimes I expect them to have the same quality as another friend, but in the end....they are all unique.

There is one that I can always vent to about anything and she will never get mad, and she almost always understands; there is one who tends to go through the same exact emotions/situations as I do, at the same exact time; there is one who is always supportive of me, even when I don't deserve it; there is one who is protective of me and always keeps me accountable, even if it's harsh criticism; there is one who will always laugh at my jokes; there is one who will comfort and encourage me even if I don't accept it; there is the one where no matter how many times we fight, we will always love each other; there is the one who can always make me feel happy; there is the one who always makes me feel empowered and ready to conquer the world; there is the one who always knows how to make me laugh, even when I am in tears; there is the one who I can be a complete slob around and they still will take me seriously; there is the one that brightens up my day just by being the room with me; there are those ones who I will always love deeply even though we have drifted apart; and then there are those friends I can not talk to for months, but once we get going on a conversation it's as if we had never stopped being best friends. (And I have recently found someone who I believe is the Yin to my Yang in personality! :D)

And I know I have way more friends than just those types.

And I think the most important realization that I've had....is that I should quit focusing on the faults of my friends....and focus more on the reason(s) why I am friends with them and why I appreciate their friendship and continue to be friends with them. Because when I focus on that....I am not wasting my time moping about why they are disappointing me.

All in all...I really truly do appreciate my friends. And I hope they all know that. Each one of them helps complete me in their own special way. :)

If you are my friend and you are reading this.....I love and appreciate you :)

What we desire most is right infront of our faces...

[I have decided I will update this at least once a month...I know I'm a little off but oh well you will live. What I will talk about won't necessarily be what is going on in my life, but moreso what I have discovered in the past month.]

I have come to realize the root of all feelings of heartbreak, disappointment, mourning, sadness, discontent. It is simply because we always want more. And these feelings stem from not finding that "more" in that person, place, event, situation, circumstance, etc.

As humans we always try to strive towards finding our true desires. It's our nature. But see where we go wrong is when we strive to fulfilling a certain desire through a person, or trying to relive a situation, only to reach disappointment when the person/situation does not turn out how you had hoped it would be.

We then realize that we feel a void in our life. Something is missing and you aren't sure where you can find it. And your life is basically the pursuit of finding it.

The reason why we miss people and why it hurts so much to lose someone is simply because that person who you miss/lost filled a certain hole (or desire) in your heart....and when they aren't in your life anymore, it's as if a part of you is missing and you aren't sure who else can fill it.

What I have learned this month is that all that we are looking for is right infront of us. He always has been. He always will be. Even when we forget that He's there. He'll be there....waiting for us.

His name is Jesus Christ. And because of His sacrifice on the cross.... He shows that there is a love that covers over a multitude of sins. His love.

What I have learned this month is that no matter how much I may deny it, God's love is always going to be present. His love is what will fill our voids of loss in life, as long as we let Him!

And trust me, the reason why I blog about this is because I have severely struggled to accept His love and grace this past month. But what I've realized is that my unacceptance will never change what Christ did on the cross and it will never change His love for me. And I'm not sure what else could possibly fill a void in your life, other than that.

I will now end with this song that my friend Colleen told me to listen to, which actually my friend Amanda had told me to listen to months previous. And I'm pretty sure there is a reason why this song has been reoccuring in my life because I truly think Jesus wanted me to hear this. And perhaps He wants you to hear it to. Like the last verse says, "I want you to know, that I love you. I'll never let you go."

Why are you strivin' these days
Why are you tryin' to earn grace
Why are you cryin', let me lift up your face
Just don't turn away

Why are you lookin' for love
Why are you still searchin' as if I'm not enough
To where will you go child, tell me where will you run
To where will you run

And I'll be by your side
Wherever you fall
In the dead of night
Whenever you call
And please don't fight
These hands that are holding you
My hands are holding you

Look at these hands and my side
They swallowed the grave on that night
When I drank the world's sin
So I could carry you in
And give you life
I want to give you life

Cause I, I love you
I want you to know
That I, I love you
I'll never let you go

Sometimes ends are only the beginning

I must first explain the title of this blog before I explain the purpose of this blog.

For Mrs. Ames' Humanities class, she had us create a "6 word memoir".
I chose the six words, "Sometimes ends are only the beginning" for multiple reasons.
1) It has come to the end of my senior year. And though I am departing a school I am in love with...I know that this is only the beginning of my life journey.
2) Throughout my public schooling experience I have gained many relationships...and I have lost many relationships with people. But what I have come to realize is that sometimes an ending to a friendship is needed in order for you to meet the great people you are to come to meet.
3) I have moved a total of 3 times in my life. And every time I leave people I really connected with. But as sad as that ending was, I am ultimately happy with where I ended up. My departure only led up to a new, great, arrival.
4) This is probably the most important translation of my memoir. So I will take a whole paragraph to explain it. Because this not only has a huge meaning for my memoir, but for my entire life.

I had met Albert Alonzo in middle school, and I honestly at first really disliked him at first. Then I got to become real close with him in 8th grade and we grew very fond of each other. (I'm leaving out the details for sake of space) Then high school came and we started to grow apart as we both began gaining whole new friends. Then I found out he had to move to Fife high school and I was really bummed. Then came the one day in my life that I am able to remember the very details from.
Albert Alonzo committed suicide on June 24th 2006. The reasoning will remain confidential, but the trauma will always be well known. It devastated my class more than anything else ever has. He was not only our Freshman class president, but he all resided in a special place in our hearts.
I personally suffered from severe depression because of this event, and it continues to be a touchy subject for me to handle.
Then one day, after Albert's vigil, I attended Highlands Community Church and I learned about Christ's love. I soon wanted to get to know this Jesus guy more personally and I accepted him into my heart. That day completely changed my life.
Christ caught me right when I was down and hopeless. When I thought I should end my life, Christ gave me HIS life. Even though Albert's life came to an end; it gave my life a whole new beginning. Sometimes ends are only the beginning.

So now that I have explained the title of this entry, I must explain the purpose of this blog.
I write this blog on a day in my life that is a HUGE milestone. Graduation day.
Some may see this as the end, and though that is true in many aspects I see it as only the beginning.

So as I leave my fellow Highlanders, of which I hold very dear to my heart, I want to be able to have them keep up with my life, my feelings, my goals, my dreams, etc.

This is the purpose of this blog.

As my high school career comes to an end, I'd like to welcome you to my beginning.

Sometimes ends are only the beginning.
